since Nintendo launched the Nintendo Switch, it has been the Japanese multinational video game company's flagship console. However, all these years, the eShop for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS has remained open to anyone interested in purchasing games for these consoles. It looks like that won't be the case from March 2023, though Nintendo recently announced that you can no longer buy digital games on the Wii U and 3DS eShops. Although the eShops won't be discontinued until next year, Nintendo is making a few changes to eShop purchases before we get there. Some of these changes include: As of May 23, 2022, you will no longer be able to add funds to your eShop account on the two platforms using a credit card. As of August 29, 2022, you will no longer be able to use eShop gift cards to fund your Wii U and 3DS account.

If you have funds in your Nintendo Wallet account, after March 3, 2023 you will not be able to use them to purchase Wii U and 2023DS titles. However, this does not mean that Nintendo will stop the Wii U and 3DS completely. When Nintendo initially published a support article explaining the change, a section noted that "many classic games for previous platforms are not available for purchase anywhere." Nintendo says players can access classic games through its Nintendo Switch Online subscription service, and that it has no plans to offer "classic content in other ways." However, the company removed this section shortly after its release.
